Publisher 2K had a big year in 2013, with BioShock Infinite wining plenty of year-end rewards and Grand Theft Auto V breaking game sales records near the end of summer. It now appears that the publisher is hoping to carry this momentum into the next console generation with a fresh take on the console competitive/co-op multiplayer landscape.

Game Informer last week revealed Evolve, the long-rumored title from Turtle Rock Studios, the developer behind the original Left 4 Dead. Today 2K Turtle Rock officially announced Evolve, a multiplayer shooter with a Monster Hunter-like twist.

Players will team up into groups of four and face off against a powerful monster. Players can choose from a variety of classes that have different abilities. The monster will be controlled by another player whose task is to become more powerful and destroy the team of adventurers.

“Our philosophy is to build incredibly fun game experiences that we can’t find anywhere else,” said Chris Ashton, co-founder of Turtle Rock Studios. “Evolve’s co-op vs. lone wolf formula has created some of the most intense multiplayer matches we’ve ever experienced.”

Evolve will be out sometime this fall for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Though the release date has not been pinned down, pre-orders for the game are already available. 2K has also announced that pre-orders for the game will come with a “Monster Expansion Pack,” which comes with a new monster character and a skin for the already-announced Goliath monster.
