Erin Brockovich, the fiery environmental activist who was portrayed by Julia Roberts in the 2000 hit movie by the same name, was arrested on Friday after a game warden watched her struggling to dock a boat at Lake Mead, which is just outside of Boulder City, Nevada.
“She was not sure how to maneuver the boat into the dock,” Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Edwin Lyngar said. “It’s a simple thing if you can think clearly. But if you add alcohol and unfamiliarity of the area, it can all cause serious problems.”
Brockovich was reportedly slurring her speech and acting intoxicated, so she was given a field sobriety test which showed her blood alcohol level to be twice that of the legal limit. She was promptly arrested and taken into custody, where she was later released on $1,000 bond. She released a statement about the incident, saying she realized how serious the situation was.
“At no time was the boat away from the dock and there was no public safety risk,” she said. “That being said, I take drunk driving very seriously, this was clearly a big mistake, I know better and I am very sorry. After a day in the sun and with nothing to eat it appears that a couple of drinks had a greater impact than I had realized.”
