Emma Stone has been drawing big numbers to her Broadway debut in Caberet, despite the loss of co-star Alan Cumming for four shows while he was on vacation.

The show has grossed $686,271 for eight performances, and while it’s not as much as initially expected, the departure of Cumming and the price of tickets–over $110 apiece–factored into the payday as well.

Stone, who spoke recently in an interview about her love of the stage, has been garnering good reviews for her performance as Sally Bowles. The actress was actually offered the role once before but was forced to turn it down due to a hectic schedule. She officially took over for Michelle Williams on November 11.

“There was one day on the schedule where I would land from Tokyo in the morning and have enough time to make it to perform in that afternoon’s matinee. I realized that this schedule would turn the dream of playing Sally into a kind of nightmare. It felt like forcing something that wouldn’t fit. But I was telling myself I can do this, and everyone wanted to make it work, and it’s hard to say no when people are being so accommodating. But part of me also thought, ‘It’s going to kill me.’” she told the New York Times.

Stone says she’s wanted the role since she was a child and admitted she was scared about her debut at first.

“I’m scared s***less! But I’ve wanted to play that part since I was, strangely, nine years old, which is way too young,” she said.
