Ellen DeGeneres and Michelle Obama rocked out to ‘Uptown Funk’ while recording Monday’s episode of Ellen’s show. As part of the #GimmeFive hashtag the first lady is promoting as part of her Let’s Move campaign for physical fitness, the two aimed to show everyone how much fun they can have when engaging in healthy movement. The song featuring both Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars was perfect for the occasion. The song will once again be put to good use during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll.
“In honor of the fifth anniversary [of the Let’s Move campaign] I’ve issued this challenge. We’re calling it #GimmeFive and we’re using the hashtag #GimmeFive on social media,” Michelle Obama told Ellen DeGeneres.
“We’re asking folks all across the country to #GimmeFive ways their leading a healthy life. We’ve got a lot of celebrities involved,” she said, thanking BeyoncĂ©, Nick Jonas and Ryan Seacrest for their involvement. “We’re gonna take over the Easter Egg Roll this year with a #GimmeFive dance, and actually the So You Think You Can Dance all stars are coming to the Easter Egg Roll to teach the whole South Lawn this dance.”
“I have actually challenged this woman right here to learn the #GimmeFive dance,” she said of Ellen DeGeneres, before the two ladies showed off their moves.
DeGeneres pretended to be ill prepared.
“I’m very busy, very, very busy and I’m not really good at choreography. I’m more of a free style,” she said.
“You’re more street?” Michelle asked, and Ellen DeGeneres confirmed.
“I have tried to learn the dance, and so if that’s your challenge…You have learned the dance I assume?” Ellen asked the first lady.
“Yeah, I’ve been…I’m busy, too, you know!” Michelle said with a laugh. “But I have taken [lessons] backstage. I just sort of looked over and I just thought, ‘Maybe we can do this’…if you’re up for the challenge!”
Ellen agreed, but added, “The thing is your people said you’ve been practicing for a year so.”
“My people?” Michelle asked. “You think I have people?”
Right before the two hit the dance floor, executing some impressive moves to ‘Uptown Funk,’ they issued words of warning to one another–still clearly joking.

“You’ve rehearsed it, you’ve practiced it and it’s part of the Let’s Move campaign. It’s important to move. It’s important to dance,” Ellen said.
“I got the dance steps the same time you got the dance steps, so don’t even try it!” Michelle retorted.
Then they danced.
