Elizabeth Olsen has been rumored for weeks now to have landed a part in the sequel to the enormously successful “Avengers”, and she’s now confirmed it. She will be playing Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch.

Co-star Samuel L. Jackson leaked the news last month during an interview that Olsen would be joining the cast, although at the time he said he didn’t know what role she would be playing.

“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year, I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. Olsen, but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script,” Jackson said.

Olsen played coy with the press earlier this year, saying she wasn’t aware of any plans by the film’s casting directors to have her try out for a role.

“I’ve been rumored about lots of things [so] I don’t know… To be part of [The Avengers]? Sure. I grew up loving comic books and sci-fi… I think those movies are great. I would love to do something like that,” she said.

Olsen says she’s excited about the chance to work with her “Godzilla” co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson again; he’s reportedly up for the role of Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch’s twin brother.

“We get to play husband and wife, and we get to play twin brother and sister,” Olsen said. “It’s also fun because even though in Godzilla we play husband and wife, we don’t have a lot of scenes together. I just love him. I love his family. I love his kids. I’m so excited we get to work with each other more and to actually work with each other. I think it’s going to be fun.”

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2015.
