According to an unsealed police report, 19 Kids and Counting stars Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar reportedly use a rod to spank their kids.

The Daily Mail reports that one of Josh Duggar’s now well-covered molesting victims spoke of the Duggar’s discipline method of choice to an investigator.

“They have a rod,” said the victim. “[They] do this to all the kids.”

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have issued a statement of support of their son Josh during this scandal, saying:

“Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives. When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.”

Josh Duggar was first investigated for the molesting incidents when a victim reported that he “had been touching her breasts and genitals while she slept.”

According to a summary of the timeline of the scandal, Jim Bob Duggar arranged for Josh to go through “counseling,” which reportedly consisted of helping a family friend remodel a building. The family also spoke to another friend who was a state trooper. Josh was chastised, but no charges were filed. In Josh’s recent statement, he said, “We [the family] spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing,” But this is the only time he spoke to the police.

In 2006, a family friend borrowed a book from the Duggar’s and found notes detailing Josh’s deeds. The Duggars were slated to go on Oprah Winfrey’s television show, but the friend sent an email to the production company, which resulted in the appearance being canceled. The Oprah folks called a child abuse hotline about the accusations and the Duggars were called back to Arkansas to answer some questions about the matter.

But by this time the statute of limitations on the crimes had passed. Josh was not permitted by his parents to speak to investigators at that time. The whole matter went away while the Duggar’s TV fortunes soared.

Josh Duggar appears to be proof that famous guys don't even need to be all that famous to be protected from sexual assault charges.
