CBS News reports that L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling is now officially banned for life by the NBA.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the banning on Tuesday.
“The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful,” Silver said. “The man whose voice is heard on the recording … is Mr. Sterling. “The hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling. Effective immediately, I am banning Mr. Sterling for life.”
Silver also announced that he will fine Don Sterling $2.5 million and try to force a sale of the L.A. Clippers.
“As for Mr. Sterling’s ownership interest in the Clippers, I will urge the Board of Governors … to force a sale of the team and will do everything in my power to make sure that happens,” Silver said. “…This has been a painful moment for all members of the NBA family”
Folks were quick to respond to the banning announcement.

Donald Sterling is first owner since George Steinbrenner in 1990 to receive lifetime ban by a league. Steinbrenner's ban was later lifted.

Donald Sterling was recorded talking derisively about black people, saying that he did not want them brought to his basketball games. Team members and many others have protested Sterling’s continued ownership of and affiliation with the Clippers and the NBA, as a whole.
