Dolly Parton’s NBC TV Movie, aptly named Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, premiered on Thursday to good reviews.

The special began and ended with Dolly Parton sitting in a sleigh in Dollywood all gussied up in Christmas garb and surrounded by snowy holiday cheer.
Dolly Parton said of the her life and the relation to the special before it aired, “We always made jokes and said we didn’t even know we were poor till some smart aleck up and told us.”
She continued, “We didn’t have any money, but we were rich in things that money don’t buy. You know, like love and kindness and understanding.”
Dolly Parton also talked about the way her life changed when she broke out as a huge star.
She said, “I don’t think Momma was that surprised. Momma saw it in me. She thought, ‘Well, if anybody is gonna do what they say, it’s gonna be her.’ Because I was always very determined.”
