Dishonored Release Date Set For October 9th

After dropping the debut trailer just a couple of weeks ago (the culmination of some social media teasing), Bethesda has just announced an official release date for the highly-anticipated steampunk stealth game Dishonored.

People of North America, it looks like you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy on October 9th. That goes for all platforms – Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Those of you in Europe will have to wait a few days – October 12th is your day.

Once again, if you’re unsure about what you’re getting:

Dishonored is set in Dunwall, an industrial whaling city where steampunk- inspired technology and otherworldly forces coexist in the shadows. You are Corvo, the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress who has been murdered. Framed for the crime, you become an infamous assassin, known by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is besieged by plague and ruled by a corrupt government armed with frightening technologies, dark forces bestow supernatural abilities upon you – but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.

The game, in development at Arkane Studios, is set to feature a “flexible combat system” that allows users to mix traditional blade attacks with “supernatural abilities.”

Along with this release announcement, they’ve also unveiled the box art:

“We are pleased that Dishonored has captured people’s attention,” said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. “We are looking forward to sharing lots more information about the game leading up to its launch in October, and having a hands-on build of Dishonored in our booth at E3!”

It’s an understatement to say we’re excited about this one. And that October 9th release date might lessen the sting of the recently-announced delay on another much-anticipated release, Bioshock Infinite.
