Comic-Con International has always been a melting pot of fans, actors, musicians, cosplayers, and writers (as well as readers); every year, San Diego sees thousands of fans gather to celebrate the diverse things they love under one roof. This year, the attendees are expected to be even more diverse than usual.
Metallica will be in attendance this year, for instance, to promote their new film “Metallica Through The Never”, and drummer Lars Ulrich says that the Comic-Con audience is perfect for it.
“It’s just a magnet for films that have this kind of audience. We’re pretty psyched about it,” Ulrich said.
When most people think of Comic-Con, they imagine outrageous costumes, “nerds”, and comic books. But over the years, the event has become a critical part of marketing for brands, movies, music, and television. This year will see television-themed events from shows like “The Walking Dead”, “Vikings”, and “Game Of Thrones”, as well as a live event meant to promote the 2014 release of “Godzilla”. Other movies gaining interest at the con are “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Captain America: Winter Soldier”. Of course, there are still plenty of comics getting attention as well, and according to the L.A. Times, Neil Gaiman’s upcoming Sandman miniseries, “Sandman: Overture” is getting the most buzz so far.
The convention will last through Sunday at the San Diego Convention Center.
