The past week hasn’t been so great for Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd. Not only did the Heisman hopeful have a poor showing in a 51-14 loss against Florida State this past Saturday night, some gambling rumors involving Boyd have surfaced, which he says are absolutely untrue.

The rumors surfaced over the weekend online after a person who goes by the alias Incarcerated Bob said that Boyd has more than $80,000 in gambling debt related to bets made on NFL games.

While people wouldn’t typically bat an eye at such online rumors–especially ones made by users hiding behind a screen name–Incarcerated Bob is well known in the gambling world as he often sells insider information to gamblers, which is why the rumor grew legs. According to The Clemson Insider, Incarcerated Bob said that his information “comes from direct sources in Vegas that have ties to the bookies.”

“I don’t really know where that came from,” Boyd said. “When I heard it, it was pretty shocking. That being built on top of the loss made it a rough little weekend.” Boyd tried to keep a good sense of humor about the allegations and said that he doesn’t get to watch enough NFL games to have a problem gambling on them.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was informed of the allegations prior to the Florida State game, but Boyd didn’t find out until Sunday morning when he was forced to clear up the matter.

“That just added to my beautiful Sunday,” Swinney said. “I spoke to Tajh about it, and he just shook his head. So, I have no reason to not believe Tajh Boyd. That is the only comment there is.” Swinney also added, “I have no reason not to trust him, absolutely. No question, his integrity is impeccable.” Boyd, a senior, hasn’t had any off-the-field issues in his time at Clemson and is also an ACC Academic Honor Roll member.

Boyd’s parents are outraged at the accusation. “These reports are totally false,” Carla Boyd, Tajh’s mom, said. “Please leave my son alone.” His mom said they are considering pursuing legal action, if they can find out the true identity of Incarcerated Bob.

Unfortunately for Boyd, the gambling rumors issue isn’t closed just yet. Athletic Director Dan Radakovich asked the Clemson compliance office to examine the report. The athletic department also forwarded the gambling rumors report to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
