Clearwater Beach Shooting Wounds Two, Arrests Made

Clearwater Beach is normally a very peaceful town, but the shooting on Memorial Day shattered that sense of peace for locals and visitors alike–at least temporarliy. Two people were wounded during the shooting at the Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort on Monday. Four men have been arrested and are presently facing multiple charges.

The Clearwater Beach shooting stemmed from fights between groups of people, according to Clearwater police spokeswoman Joelle Castelli. She says the first shots fired came from people in a parking garage near the resort. The second group involved was in the street near the resort.

Castelli also reported that one man was shot in the groin and another in the hand. The man shot in the hand fled the scene. Beach access was shut down for a while following the shootings. It later opened back up but only to Clearwater Beach residents. The Hyatt was closed down for some time as investigators did a room by room search for the shooters.

A Twitter post claims authorities said the shooters knew one another.

Fortunately no one was killed in this Clearwater Beach shooting. Too often these verbal or physical fights take an even more violent turn when weapons are involved. It is unknown at this point if some of the charges the four arrested men are facing include illegal possession of those firearms.

People staying at the resort for Memorial Day weekend were definitely alarmed by this Clearwater Beach shooting.

Violence always leaves an impact on people. Those expecting to enjoy a leisurely weekend at the beach will no doubt remember the Clearwater Beach shooting for the rest of their lives. Fortunately they won’t leave with the memory of someone dying as a result of it.
