Professor Dr. Guan Zhu of Texas A&M University recorded horrifying footage on his dash cam of a cement truck flipping over and slamming head-on into his car after the truck driver ran a red light and lost control of his vehicle.

Zhu was stopped at an intersection in College Station, TX at 2:30 PM last Tuesday afternoon when the accident occurred, although he does not have a clear recollection of the events. “It’s what happened, you know, I could not remember in my memory, a truck is coming, and I could not remember exactly how it happened and then the video says that’s how it happened, kind of turning like 45 degrees before it hits my vehicle,” said Zhu.

Neither Zhu or the driver of the cement truck suffered any major injuries, although Zhu was treated for minor cuts. The cement truck driver was cited, and the most damage from the accident seems to be the load of spilled cement that took several hours to remove from the scene. College Station Police Department spokesman Lt. Chuck Fleeger said “By looking at the video of the accident it seems a lot worse than it ended up.”

“It’s evidence just like if someone took pictures” said Houston litigator Matthew Storey of dash cam footage. Zhu installed the dash cam last year for the express purpose of recording any potential car accidents. Dash cams have been slowly gaining popularity amongst civilians to record auto accidents, and Patti Kelly of State Farm Insurance Media Relations Team said “Video footage can serve as an important piece of the puzzle as we determine what exactly happened to cause the accident.”
