  • Jeryn Hogarth, a male character in the upcoming original Marvel series, Jessica Jones, will be played by Carrie-Anne Moss of The Matrix fame.

Moss’s character is closely connected to two other Marvel characters Luke Cage and Danny Rand (also known as Iron Fist). Hogarth is an attorney who used to work for Wendell Randall, the father of Iron Fist. Additionally, he also became the legal counsel for Heroes for Hire, a group of superheroes led by Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

Moss’s character’s name will also alternate as Jeri Hogarth, which is her female alter ego; however, it isn’t entirely clear yet as to what her role is in Jessica Jones’s life. In her recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moss discussed her role’s relationship with Jessica Jones, who will be played by Krysten Ritter.

They’re not friends but they need each other,” Moss said of Hogarth’s relationship with Jessica Jones. “They come to each other in these scenes, and there’s a lot of back and forth and bad flirtation at times, in life. They’re funny together and can’t stand each other. It’s interesting.”

Ritter also said that her role and that of Moss’s is the most complex she’s encountered in her acting career.

“It’s by far the most complex and interesting and special friendship between two women that I’ve seen in a movie or television,” Ritter said. “We’re there for each other in ways that we don’t see, but we’re never talking about a dude or an outfit. It’s a really pure bond.”

Jessica Jones focuses on the retired superhero’s life and her search for personal redemption.

The synopsis states, “After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.”

Its first season consists of 13 episodes and will debut on November 20 on Netflix.
