After several years with his boyfriend, Ricky Martin has split up with Carlos Gonzalez Abella. Everyone has been making their new year’s resolutions and things that they might want to change, and the long-time couple has decided to move on from each other.

The two of them had been together for four years, and when Ricky Martin made the decision to have kids, Carlos Gonzalez Abella was not with him. Abella had said that he wanted a boyfriend, but not a father with a family, and the idea of not wanting a family seems to have caught up with the couple, being a factor in their breakup.

Fortunately, the two of them are still on good terms, and it was a decision that the couple made together. A spokesperson for Ricky Martin reported the news, and said that “Ricky and Carlos have mutually agreed to end their relationship, but continue to be united by friendship and their shared experiences.”

He tweeted a few days ago, potentially hinting at the fact that a big change would be coming in his life, but did not say what it was.

Ricky Martin is the proud father to 5-year-old twins twins, Matteo and Valentino. Although the two of them welcomed the two boy with the help of a surrogate mother in August of 2008, Martin was the one who had started the process, and had planned to father the boys on a long-term basis.

Addressing the issue of family between the two of them as a couple, Ricky Martin referred to Carlos Gonzalez Abella when telling Vanity Fair in 2012 that he said “I’m looking for a boyfriend, not a father with a family.’ And I said to him: ‘You’ve found a grown-up, full-fledged man.’ I created a family structure and if he didn’t understand he’d ask me questions and we were on our way.”

Things were in question regarding their relationship when Ricky Martin showed up solo for his performance at Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun on New Year’s Eve.

Ricky Martin does not have the mainstream popularity that he once had, but he became a huge hit with American audiences following the release of his single “Livin’ La Vida Loca” in 1999. He came out as being a homosexual in 2010, after receiving a large amount of gay fans, and rumors about his sexuality were brought about.

While Ricky Martin has gained fame as a Latin singer, Carlos Gonalez Abella is certainly not as well-known as his partner, and has a job as a stock broker.
