When a Canadian woman was rushed to the hospital to deliver her quintuplets, it was a shock to her boyfriend that she wasn’t pregnant and never had been.

For 34-weeks, Barbara Bienvenue had convinced both her boyfriend Paul Servat and the town she lived in (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) that she was pregnant.

The shocking news was delivered to Servat at the hospital by the confused doctors.

“I lost everything, it was my whole life,” Servat told the Toronto Sun. He also added that Bienvenue told him she was expecting twins, then triplets, then quadruplets and then finally quintuplets.

He even said her belly grew while she experienced morning sickness and lactation.

After a local reporter discovered the mother was expecting quintuplets, she decided to publish a story on the family. News of the expected quintuplets spread, generating loads of donations to soon-to-be-parents Bienvenue and Servat.

Once reporter Marie-Pier Gagnon realized the family wasn’t pregnant, she ran yet another story.

Local police spokesman Sgt. Luc Tougas said his department is aware of the horrific story, but it has not received any formal fraud complaints from those who made generous donations to the couple.

“The spouse, who was also jilted with this whole story, has been reimbursing some of the associations,” Tougas told ABCNews.com. He went on to say that Servat was “also very stunned.”

“Right now, this woman is at the hospital undergoing psychiatric treatment. We suspect some mental issues.”
