  • Nuketown was one of the most popular multiplayer maps in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. Its small size placed an emphasis on short-range battles and made killstreak rewards more potent. Battles on Nuketown were hectic and could sometimes be very fun.

Today Activision released a trailer to show off Nuketown 2025, the updated version of Nuketown for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. The new map is what Nuketown would look like if someone in the 1960’s had built it for a world’s fair as a vision of what the year 2025 should look like.

Not everyone will get to play on the new Nuketown map, however. We’re creeping up on Black Ops II’s November 18th release and Activision wants to make sure Call of Duty fans make the game the most pre-ordered title in history, not just the most pre-ordered in GameStop history. Nuketown 2025 will be available for free to everyone who pre-orders the title, implying that the map will be purchasable alone or included in a future map pack. Pre-orderers will also get access to the double XP launch weekend event from November 16-18.

Normally I don’t approve of day one DLC or splitting a multiplayer community in this manner so early in a game’s lifecycle. However, the download is free and anyone who will still be playing Black Ops II this time next year has already pre-ordered the title.
