  • Bruce Willis has killed a lot of people over the years. Cinematically speaking, of course. Since the glory days of “Die Hard”, Willis has been steadily adding to his enormous on-screen body count, a number which continues to grow as the years wear on. He’ll have the opportunity to ice even more bad guys when director Jon M. Chu’s upcoming summer blockbuster “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” opens on June 29th, 2012.

In the film, Willis portrays Joe Colton, the original G.I. Joe. When the entire squadron is wiped out courtesy of a sneak attack perpetrated by Cobra, the remaining soldiers must band together in order to save the world from total destruction. This is a scenario Willis has tackled several times during his action-packed career. Truthfully, I can’t think of an actor that’s better suited to portray the iconic hero.

“He exudes the tone of the movie because he’s so cool and he’s so that guy but at the same time doesn’t take himself too seriously,” Chu explained to Comic Book Resources. “He just gives you that little wink, or whenever he says one line you just get it.”

Although I hated the original entry in the series, I have to admit that the sequel looks much more accomplished than its much-maligned predecessor in just about every conceivable way. Even more exciting is the fact that I may not have to look at Channing Tatum for the majority of the film. Judging from the trailer — and this is just a hunch, mind you — it would seem that Tatum’s character bites the dust along with most of the other Joes at the beginning of the film. One can only hope, right? No offense to the Tatum fans who read this website, but I honestly cannot stand the guy. He was okay in “Haywire”, but that’s mostly because I enjoyed watching him get the snot knocked out him by Gina Carano.

Here’s the official “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” plot synopsis:

When Cobra spy Zartan has most of the Joes assassinated, the remaining Joes band together to strike back.

Short, sweet, and to the point, just the way I like it. In addition to Willis and Tatum, the latest installment in the “G.I. Joe” franchise also stars Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Ray Park, Arnold Vosloo, RZA, and Jonathan Pryce.
