Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, and Demi Lovato all landed on several "best dressed" lists from the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, with each woman wearing shimmery, stunning dresses that showed a lot of skin.

While many red carpet events are an excuse to go all out with elaborate gowns and hairstyles, the VMAs are a bit more relaxed, as Amber Rose and Blac Chyna proved with their controversial "Slutwalk" dresses. Most of the ladies attending the event chose to show a lot of skin--typical for a sultry August evening--and many went for a little bit of shimmer or sparkle.

Spears chose a super short, sparkly, gold and silver number that showed an extraordinary amount of cleavage and highlighted her bared tummy. The outfit was very Vegas, which is no surprise since Brit has had a residency there for a while now.

As for Minaj and Lovato, each woman took the idea of shimmer in very different directions. Minaj chose a long, sheer gown with tiny cutouts that barely covered her lady bits. Lovato went with a short pink frock with a metallic sheen, which she changed out of for her stage performance.

Spears got to rub elbows with stars like Taylor Swift, who has made headlines recently for her abundance of famous girlfriends. Britney Spears told E! News earlier this month that she admires Swift, calling her "adorable" and saying she thinks she's very smart when it comes to the music business.

“I love Taylor Swift. I think she’s adorable. I love her music. Her music makes me so happy. She’s very level-headed. She’s a very, very smart girl, very wise," Spears said.

Britney Spears has some celebrity fans of her own, however; Miley Cyrus, who hosted the event this year, posted a photo to Instagram last week showing Brit's chair and said she would definitely be bringing her autograph book.
