Brenda K. Starr, the singer and songwriter best known for her 1988 hit, “I Still Believe,” has a daughter hoping to follow in her footsteps. Her daughter, 15-year-old Gianna Isabella, auditioned for American Idol on Wednesday. Despite some technical difficulties, she wowed judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick, Jr.

According to a report from Billboard magazine, anyone who tuned in to Wednesday night’s episode of American Idol was aware of the glitches. Just as Brenda K. Starr’s daughter was about to audition, the sound cut out.
That meant viewers missed Gianna Isabella explaining to the judges exactly who her famous mom is, and how Brenda K. Starr used to rehearse at the same dance studio that trained Jennifer Lopez. The audience also missed a very sweet conversation between Gianna Isabella and Brenda K. Starr before she entered the audition room.
