A gunman has reportedly opened fire near the Texas A&M campus in Houston around 12:30 today, and while details are still developing, early reports say that at least two police officers are down.

The school's emergency site posted updates and safety warnings as it happened, issuing a "code maroon":

Code Maroon issued:

Code Maroon issued:

Update on active shooter. CSPD reports that the shooter is in custody. Continue to avoid the area. 12:44PM

A spokesman for the police department said they could not confirm any fatalities, but did say the area is contained and there is no longer any danger to the public. The shooter reportedly shot from a house with more than one weapon, and early reports involve two police officers, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

This is a developing story. WebProNews will update it as details are available.

New reports confirm that one police officer, Brian Bachmann, was killed after suffering a gunshot wound. One civilian was also killed, and the shooter has apparently died from gunshot wounds sustained after officers returned fire. At least three others were wounded in the shootout, which occurred after officers delivered an eviction notice to the shooter.
