  • The Boy Meets World spinoff–Girl Meets World–has been renewed for a second season. The Disney Channel has picked up Cory and Topanga for a second go. The series based on the one that gained huge popularity in the 1990s follows the daughter of the initial series’ main characters.

Cory (played by Ben Savage) and Topanga (played by Danielle Fishel) were teenagers in Boy Meets World. Now they’re parents of the main character in the new show–Riley. She is played by Rowan Blanchard.

The spin-off was developed by Boy Meets World creators April Kelly and Michael Jacobs. It has fast become the number one show among kids aged two through fourteen since it premiered on the Disney Channel on June 27th. Kids aren’t the only ones watching the spinoff, however.

“The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with Boy Meets World,” Adam Bonnett, the executive vice president of original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide, said.

Girl Meets World doesn’t just feature Cory and Topanga. It features an upcoming cameo of Lee Norris’s Boy Meets World character, Stuart Minkus.

Were you a Boy Meets World fan? Did you keep constantly apprised of Cory and Topanga during the 1990s? Is Girl Meets World part of your new viewing repertoire?

Girl Meets World airs on the Disney Channel on Friday evenings at 8:30 PM. Now that the series has been granted a second season, you have plenty of time to become a new–or reprise your role as an old–fan.
