Blue Ivy Didn’t Make Drake’s Album Cover, He Swears

  • Blue Ivy Carter–the famous child of Beyonce and Jay-Z–is slowly starting to appear in more and more photographs with her superstar parents, although they are still very protective of her privacy while she’s so young. But an image on the cover of a new album has people wondering if the artwork was based on her.

Drake’s new album, “Nothing Was The Same”, doesn’t drop until September 24, but he released the album art a bit early on Instagram so that he could explain it a little. The cover features work done by artist Kadir Nelson and features a baby with an afro in profile. The baby has the sweet features and innocent, curious expression that we’ve seen from Blue Ivy, and many took to social media to wonder what she’s doing on the album cover.

But Drake explains the concept, saying, “When you go to the store and see it, you’ll see the full painting. When it’s positioned on the shelf, whatever store you go to, if they do it as I’ve asked [laughs], you’ll see the fact that it’s a child version of myself staring at myself now. Sometimes when I try and think back on this journey, it’s so hard to pinpoint all of these moments and it gets foggy. Even on past albums when I’ve been trying to tell this story, I’ve got there, but maybe not got there all the way. And what that album art is to me is, like, this is my most clean, concise thoughts from now, and my best recollection of then. That’s really what that cover’s about.”
