Bindi Irwin: “Dancing With the Stars” Sweetheart and New Role Model for Young Women

Bindi Irwin has captured the hearts of Americans, as they watch her navigate with ease the scary spotlight on the Dancing With the Stars ballroom floor. Her emotional honesty and obvious vulnerability make her even more appealing to those in the audience and viewers at home.

Last week’s performance saw Bindi Irwin not only shine with her dance skills, but bare her soul for everyone to see. A powerful tribute to her late dad–Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin–showed Bindi in an even more reflective light.

“This dance is for my Dad and for my family for everyone back at home, but for my Dad. This is for him,” Bindi Irwin said of the magic she and pro partner Derek Hough displayed.

Bindi Irwin had pretty much disappeared from the public eye internationally and in her native Australia as well, since she was a small child. At just eight years old, she delivered a eulogy at her dad’s funeral. She has since worked hand-in-hand with mom Terri Irwin and younger brother Bob to keep her dad’s legacy of conservation and animal preservation alive.

Now that she has resurfaced, Bindi Irwin is thought by many to be a good role model for young women. Might this be the resurgence of Bindi Irwin in the public eye? If so, what an excellent resurgence it will be.

Bindi Irwin has made it quite clear that being a teenager in the public eye isn’t easy, and that she doesn’t adhere to many of the teen girl norms. She is an advocate for modesty and appropriate dress–although those beliefs have been stretched a bit with some of her Dancing With the Stars costumes.

Recently announcing that she has a steady beau for the first time, Bindi Irwin will likely become a good role model for teens and dating, too. She and Chandler Powell are an adorable couple. He recently visited her in L.A. on the DWTS set.

Next week on Dancing With the Stars the “stars” all switch pro partners. Bindi Irwin has been paired with Val Chmerkovskiy, the results of which should be remarkable. Val will no doubt further challenge Bindi’s dancing abilities and present a performance that shows growth in both her skills and creativity.

Are you rooting for Bindi Irwin on this season of Dancing With the Stars? Wouldn’t you love to see her become a role model for teen girls here in the U.S.?
