Last night’s episode of “American Idol” had the top ten contestants doing a number of Billy Joel songs, from “She’s Got A Way” to “Moving Out”.
While the choice of older music may have come as a bit of a surprise to fans of the show–who were expecting the episode to feature songs from the millennium as rumored–the performers mostly held their own in unfamiliar territory. Among the best were Phillip Phillips–yes, you read that name right–who did a very convincing cover of “Moving Out” that earned him praise from all the judges, with Randy Jackson even calling it “one of the best renditions of the song ever”; Colton Dixon, who shone with his version of “Piano Man”; and Jessica Sanchez, who proved to the judges she could control her vibrato when she belted out an impressive version of “Everybody Has A Dream”.
Tommy Hilfiger has been brought on to give the contestants advice about their look, and P. Diddy has been on hand this week as their guest mentor.
Twitter users seemed to enjoy last night’s performance and are excited to see who makes it through to the next round on Thursday.
