While the world concerned itself with whether Charlize Theron and Sean Penn are an item, one of his exes became engaged. Ben Foster, 33, proposed to Penn’s ex-wife, Robin Wright, 47, earlier this year. Wright flashed her new ring while attending the opening of Diane von Furstenberg’s Journey of a Dress exhibition on January 10. Days later a source confirmed their engagement to People magazine.
Wright and Foster started dating in 2012.The media became aware of the duo when they snuggled up, in February of that year, at an Italian restaurant in Australia. Foster and Wright met in 2011 while filming Rampart. Rumors surfaced of the couple’s engagement prior to yesterday’s announcement.
A US Weekly source told the magazine that:
“Ben is a sweet guy and you don’t even notice the age difference. He’s a lot more mild-mannered than Sean [Penn]. And Robin’s kids Dylan and Hopper like him and like seeing their mom happy,” a source close to Wright told Us Weekly.
2013 brought both Wright and Foster screen success. Wright starred in House of Cards, and received an Emmy nomination for playing Claire Underwood. Foster appeared in three critically acclaimed films: Lone Survivor, Aint Them Bodies Saints and Kill Your Darlings. They also have several anticipated projects in development. The second season of Wright’s House of Cards premieres in February, and Foster is currently filming the Lance Armstrong biopic. He plays Armstrong.
Wright is nominated for a Golden Globe, along with House of Cards, tonight. Fans of the newly engaged couple should expect to see them attend together, and maybe Wright thanking him in her acceptance speech.
This is Foster’s first marriage and Wright’s third. Her marriage to Penn lasted for 13 years. They have two children together, Dylan, 22 and Hopper, 20. Wright married Dane Witherspoon for two years, from 1986 to 1988.
Could this third marriage finally seal an eternal happy ending for Wright? Let’s hope so.
