Both Microsoft and Sony have announced several first-party games for their Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. Though games such as Ryse and Infamous: Second Son look visually appealing, no next-gen launch titles appear to be revolutionary in the way a Super Mario 64 may have been. With console graphics already looking acceptably nice to many casual gamers, the real difference between generations will be demonstrated with games that span console generations. Demos featuring games such as Battlefield 4 or Watch Dogs running on a PlayStation 4 alongside their PlayStation 3 versions may be the real system-sellers this fall.
Ubisoft, which has announced upwards of 6 cross-gen titles for the upcoming year, is embracing this concept. The publisher today released a trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag showcasing all of the features the game will get in its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. The video is narrated by Ubisoft Associate Producer Sylvain Trottier. It highlights features such as better water, weather, and waves. Upgraded lighting and plant realism are also mentioned in the video, and what Black Flag trailer would be complete without some high-seas naval combat?
