If you have ever had to go down to the DMV (and what adult hasn’t), odds are you have fantasized about suing them for the amount of time and energy they made you waste in those long lines. Well, Ashton Kutcher is making that fantasy a reality (of sorts) by suing them for wasting his production company’s time.

Ashton Kutcher is currently shooting a Steve Jobs biopic in the San Francisco Bay Area. But that isn’t the only project he’s working on, or at least it wasn’t, until the DMV stepped in to ruin the day. It seems the actor’s production company had a contract with the DMV to do a reality show based on the “emotional, dramatic, moving, humanizing and entertaining situations that arise on a daily basis at DMV’s more than 170 offices across the State of California.”

According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, the DMV backed out of the agreement that Katalyst Media had with their Director, George Valverde. Kutcher made an agreement with the DMV Director to give Katalyst the rights to film real life event for a four episode documentary series.

Katalyst Media says that it is already in an agreement with TruTV to air the shows and that agreement is contingent upon the prior agreement made with the DMV. As the time to sign the written agreement drew near, the DMV sent a letter to Katalyst media saying that it would not be in their best interest to move forward with the project.

Katalyst is asking for $1.4 million in damages for pre-production work they already completed.
