Jeffrey Austin White developed the Flash Card Maker Pro app for Android in 2010 to help his six-year-old daughter learn her first grade sight words. Since then, the app has been expanded to assist users of all ages in a variety of different ways including: learning new languages, practicing vocabulary, memorizing facts or preparing for exams.

With over 1.5 million votes cast and a record number of nominations, 148Apps, creators of the Best App Ever Awards, announced the 2011 winners on January 27, 2012 at MacWorld/iWorld Conference in San Francisco, CA. For the first time since the inception of the awards in 2008, Android applications and games were included in the contest. For each category two winners were named: one for iOS and one for Android.
