Angela Brigid Lansbury has been made a Dame of the British Empire. Angela Lansbury is famous for her stage, TV and movie acting. This year the 88-year-old actress made Queen Elizabeth II’s honors list for her philanthropy and charitable works.

In America, Lansbury is best known for her Murder, She Wrote series where she acts as a clue-collecting detective. She is also known for her Tony Award winning performance in the stage production of Sweeney Todd among numerous other very successful Broadway plays . This year, the veteran actress received an Academy Honorary Award for her extravagant achievements in cinema and an acting career spanning 75 years. Mrs Lansbury is truely incredible.

The New Year’s honors list traditionally features names chosen by the British  government. The honors are then presented by the Queen to people who have contributed to good works and achievements. This has been a British tradition since 1890. The queen can also bestow an honor as a personal gift. Dr. Marcus Setchell, the queen’s gynecologist, delayed his retirement this year to administer the birth of Prince William’s baby. The queen awarded him knighthood for his many years of excellent service.

You can view the full list here–it includes knighthoods, damehoods, orders, chivalry, and commanders, among other honors.
