Lonely Island actor-comedian Andy Samberg has definitely had a big week – or at least two big days! First, he conquers the Golden Globe Awards, then the next day he takes on Fox.
E! News reports that the former Saturday Night Live star had quite a shocking Sunday. When the Golden Globe winner was announced for ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Series,’ it appears no one was more flabbergasted than the actor himself.
Samberg, who was lauded for his work on the Fox hit comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, was almost rendered speechless.
“Oh, no! I didn’t prepare anything, it wasn’t going to happen,” Samberg said. “Who knew?!” However, he quickly recovered from his astonishment, and gave a verbal expression of gratitude.
“I just will thank everyone. Thanks to Fox and Kevin Reilly and Universal,” he said. “And the guys who came up with the show, Mike [Schur] and Dan [Goor].” Samberg then went onto acknowledge the cast and crew of the Fox series, gushing, “The cast is awesome. The crew, really good. Can’t forget them. The writers kick A! I really do love them and respect them.”
Then, last but not least, he thanked his “beautiful and incredible” wife Joanna Newsom, whom he married just months ago in September. But, his prosperous moments didn’t end there. Today, things got even better.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old comedian, and his Lonely Island confreres Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone reportedly inked a multi-year deal with the Fox network for a “new alternative comedy venture.”
Their new merger company will allow them to structure and develop new comedic projects that will be supported and broadcasted through streaming digital platforms like Hulu. However, the ultimate goal will be expansion to the mainstream Fox network and its subsidiaries FX and FXX.
Fox’s Chairman of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly shared his high expectations and admiration of the Lonely Island trio. “This is Fox’s third alternative development venture, and I’m ecstatic that we’re launching it with comedic geniuses The Lonely Island,” said Reilly.
“I’ve admired Akiva, Andy and Jorma’s work for many years, and they share our desire to give creators more independence and the opportunity to take risks. These guys know what it takes to break through — whether online or on air — and they are the perfect partners to help us find the next generation of comedy hits.”
