Andy Murray, who is currently in the Philippines for a couple of exhibition matches, has proposed to his longtime sweetheart Kim Sears. According to reports, the proposal happened on Wednesday, November 26. Murray and Sears have been together for nine years now. The couple met back at the US Open back in 2005, when they were still teenagers. Despite being present at Murray’s games, Sears has been known to keep a low profile. There’s no date yet for the wedding, but there are already speculations that it would take place in Cromlix House, a luxury hotel in Dunblane owned by the tennis star.
Earlier this year, Murray joked about marrying Sears right after Wimbledon. However, he clarified in a tweet that “3 things… I don’t smoke grass, I’m not getting married (yet) and I don’t want to kill Rafael Nadal…” It seems that there is no more joking around for Murray, at least when it comes to his upcoming marriage to Sears.

Kim Sears was born in Sussex and is the daughter of former Lawn Tennis Association head of women’s tennis Nigel Sears. Nigel Sears was also a former player and coach and he was responsible for introducing Kim to Murray. Kim’s future mother-in-law, Judy Murray, calls her “the best thing to happen to Andy”.
But while Murray and Sears’ personal relationship seem to be at a high point following his proposal, Andy’s professional relationships seem to be in a state of flux. He recently sacked assistant coach Dani Vallverdu and fitness trainer Jez Green. Murray released a statement about the firing saying, “We sat down at the end of the season and decided that a change would be best for all of us. My off-season training and Australian Open preparations have already begun and I am very excited for the New Year. I thank Jez and Dani for all their hard work over the years and wish them the best for the future.”
