“Amish Mafia” star Alan Lee Beiler has been sentenced to between 3 and 23 months in prison after leading police on a high-speed chase last year that injured an officer.
Police tried to pull Beiler over in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in May for having an expired registration and he took off, leading police on a chase as he drove the wrong way down a busy road. One of the officers was involved in a crash during the chase and suffered a concussion; Beiler later pleaded guilty to drug possession, eluding police, and driving on a suspended license. Authorities say it was a miracle that only one person was injured and no one was killed during the chase, during which Beiler hit at least five other cars.
“There was definitely an angel sitting in my passenger seat,” Beiler told a judge after acknowledging that he has tried to turn his life around since the incident.
Beiler has reportedly volunteered to read to a Kindergarten class and has helped with fundraisers for the police department and a local rape crisis center since the arrest, and also began a drug rehabilitation program.
