UPDATE: The winner is Gloria C. Mackenzie, an 84-year-old woman.
ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Florida Lottery officials have confirmed that someone has finally come forward to claim that $590.5 million Powerball jackpot. They’re set to have a press conference this afternoon.
After weeks of putting it off, the winner has apparently made their claim. The winner’s identity has yet to be released, but we do know that it’s a woman, and the winning ticket was purchased at a Publix supermarket on May 18th in Zephyrhills, a town of just over 13,000 people 30 miles northeast of Tampa.
Apparently the winner will not be attending today’s press conference. She’ll have to reveal herself at some point, however, as Florida law does not allow winners to remain completely anonymous.
It’s the largest single winner in the history of the U.S. lottery.
You can watch a stream of the Florida lottery press conference below (it should start some time within the half hour. It was supposed to kick off at 2:15 pm EST but was pushed back)
