  • 19 Kids and Counting star Jill Duggar is expecting a baby boy with husband Derick Dillard imminently, and now a recent sledding incident has prompted some of the reality show’s viewers to question his standards. Jessa Duggar, however, has come to her brother-in-law’s denense.

It seems during a recent sledding adventure near the home of the 19 Kids and Counting clan, Derick Dillard almost–sources say he didn’t actually do it–ran over a cat.

The incident reportedly caused some outrage on behalf of the show’s fans.

“Our hill was very uneven, so [Derick] started to sled and the cat just jumped to be there,” Jessa Duggar said of the incident in question. She added that the cat jumped out of the way in the nick of time and that Derick Dillar did not run over it. “I know the cat, I live not far away. The cat is totally fine.”

Here is the video Derick Dillard posted to Instagram that was the catalyst for this uproar.

Derick captioned the post, “Sledding with friends and family at the Duggar home 🙂 #smallestsled.”

Jill Duggar has stayed mum on the topic. Maybe she’s simply trying to stay calm in light of Baby Dilly’s (what they’ve called their unborn son since learning Jill was expecting) upcoming arrival.

In other 19 Kids and Counting news, Michelle Duggar opened up during a recent episode of the show about her prior struggles with bulimia.

“Before I came to know the Lord, I had been struggling in my self-worth, just feeling like I needed to measure up with all of my friends around me,” Michelle Duggar said in the episode. “I just really began to have a wrong view of who I was and felt like I gained weight so easily.”

“I ended up starting a bad habit of making myself get sick after I would eat, especially if I had more food than I felt like I should eat,” she added. “And it was destructive for my health and my life.”

Michelle Duggar is much healthier these days, and works hard to teach her children about living a healthy lifestyle, too.

“I think all girls probably struggle with the same body issues. The struggle is going to be there,” the 19 Kids and Counting matriarch said. “And I just talk with my kids–my girls, my boys–and I’m honest with them about the things that I struggled with.”

What do issues like Jill Duggar’s husband almost running over a cat and Michelle Duggar’s struggle with bulimia teach fans about the 19 Kids and Counting family? Do these issues indicate that there is something peculiar about the large Christian household and its members?

No. Instead it shows the world that they’re really not so different after all–except they live their lives in front of cameras. Because of that constant exposure, every little mistake they make or issue they deal with runs the risk of being blown way out of proportion.
