Ever eat a cheeseburger and think, “The only thing this big chunk of meat is missing is bacon with a soft pretzel on top”?

Wendy’s has the answer to your quandary, my friend, and it could be coming to a restaurant near you. The fast-food chain says they tested a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger in a few stores around the country and it did very well. So well, in fact, that it was the best-selling “limited time” deal they’ve had in decades.

While the company doesn’t comment on test-products, analysts predict it will be the next item they roll out nationally.

“Our industry sources inform us that the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, to be launched nationally at some point during 2013, was one of Wendy’s most successful test products from the last 20 years,” analyst Mark Kalinowski wrote. “As such, we believe the national launch will lead to some meaningful acceleration in Wendy’s same-store sales.”

Wendy’s did confirm that the burger will be a part of their 2013 promotional rollout, so look for it soon. As for how sales will go, some aren’t so sure a special bun will make a huge difference when it comes to competing against giants like McDonald’s and Burger King.

“It’s hard to imagine that a new bun is going to make a huge impact given what Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Burger King all spend on advertising,” said Darren Tristano, executive VP of Technomic Inc . “This fits with Wendy’s positioning, but it would take a huge amount of pretzel burgers to affect their stock price significantly.”

I swear they sold this a couple months ago. I personally ordered the burger and it was ok. They ended up messing up my order and the burger ended up looking like garbage because they tried fixing it at the last second but the overall taste was ok.

Al, it’s more likely to be a messed up order when you go into a store during their higher volume times.. Aka lunch or dinner rush. Also could of been a trainee. Try to give it another chance if you can, you’d be surprised. I used to work at Wendy’s and there were certain customers that told me they wont come between certain times because of this..

        Sorry, Barry, not Al. (:

I ate a restaurant named “Wenny’s” in China 2 weeks ago and they had a pretzel burger on the menu, saying that it was new menu item!!

  • Jessie

Okay, this was already on the menu. I worked for Wendy’s in Northeast Ohio, and our store didn’t personally have it, but the ones near Cleveland did. We do this all the time.. It’s a “at participating locations” deal though.. That’s what customer’s don’t understand, is that we try these things out in select cities, and then if they do good and depending on a store’s business, THEN that store COULD get it. It also depends on many things, and hence why we had promotional items.. Just because one person in the area liked it, doesn’t mean everyone did, that’s why they got rid of certain things; that or they want to make better quality items (Hence why the Monterey Chicken sandwich went bye-bye for us). This article is probably being posted because the sandwich did good in tester stores, so they are going to get it out to more locations.. It’s simple and common sense.
