Yahoo's Australian Arm Gets Leg Up In Mobile Market

Job site deal established, too

Fair warning: American readers aren't likely to know a lot of names here.  But Yahoo7 (the product of an Australian partnership between Yahoo and the Seven Network) and Telstra (an Australian telecommunications company) have been bound together by an important new mobile search agreement.

Although no acquisitions are at stake, Lara Sinclair reports that Yahoo7 "signed a deal to make it the on-deck search provider on all Telstra mobile phones.  The multi-year deal between Yahoo7 and Telstra's Sensis division means Yahoo's oneSearch technology will replace Sensis's search technology on 4.4 million Telstra BigPond 3G-enabled phones."

This should give Yahoo a pretty huge advantage in the Australian mobile market, and stands as an important testament to the quality of oneSearch.  Revenue from display and search advertising - which will be split with Sensis - is worth mentioning, as well.

Meanwhile, sealing the mobile deal isn't the only thing Yahoo7 has managed to accomplish this week.  A new partnership between Yahoo7 and the employment site Seek was also established, which should lead to still more exposure.

Come to think of it, if Yahoo7 keeps achieving things at this rate, it may become a household name in the U.S., after all.
