Watching stock quotes trickle in after the market closed has always been a strange experience. We can thank Google for making it a thing of the past, as real-time NYSE quotes are becoming available.
Several weeks ago, Google pulled off the same trick with NASDAQ quotes. The company's been trying to accomplish these things for well over a year; it's now about as complete a finance-tracking service as a trader could want.
In a statement, Marissa Mayer pointed out, "Access to real-time financial information has traditionally been limited to investors with brokerage accounts and other users via subscription fees. We are pleased to be making this information freely available to all of our users on Google Finance, Google.com and other Google search properties."
And here's even more good news: the Dow is actually up for the day, and indeed, up for the week, making watching the market less depressing.
Google has to pay the NYSE a monthly fee to make all this happen, but the exact amount hasn't been disclosed.
