Online news aggregator startup Publish2 has raised $2.75 million in funding from Velocity Interactive Group, a digital media investment firm.
The yet to be launched site aims to be a social bookmarking site similar to Digg except powered by journalists. Anyone will be able to submit a link to a news story but only pre-approved journalists will be able to vote on a story.
The site will also be a journalism networking service, where users can create their own professional profiles that include links to their stories that other journalists can read.
"This financing allows us to continue building a strong team aimed at developing a Web platform for journalists that helps them bookmark and organize news articles as part of their story research and staying on top of their beats, connect with other journalists with similar interests, and contribute to their newsrooms' editorial efforts in linking to interesting news around the Web," said Scott Karp, President and CEO, Publish2, Inc.
The money raised will be used for strategic growth initiatives and to complete the development of the technology platform.
