Wow, 500 million free people search requests are done each month on Facebook? That's a ton of people search queries for sure!

Facebook’s a formidable entry in the social networking field - we all know this. But the company’s announcement that it is also doing well in people search (indeed, in Facebook’s own words, it is the “[m]ost used people search engine on the web”) came as a surprise to many.
Granted, a lot of companies say they’re leading in this or that, but Facebook has statistics to back up its claims. For example, there are “[o]ver 500 million searches per month,” according to Aditya Agarwal, a Facebook Tech Lead, who notes, “This makes us one of the top 20 search engines on the web in terms of number of searches.”
Agarwal also mentions “[a]pproximately 1 terabyte of in-memory data” and an “[a]verage search query time of less than 100ms.” Not bad.
He goes on to speak about personalized search, as well - this guy hits on all the hot topics. “Facebook search results are sorted by an approximation of social graph distance,” Agarwal writes. “People closer to you in the graph - your friends and people in your networks - are likely to be more relevant to you and thus are ranked higher. . . . Facebook search’s key differentiator is that search results are unique to every user because they are based on a[n] individual’s place in the social graph.”
As for what we should make of all this information, it could be an indicator of a new direction for Facebook - Agarwal does mention “big plans to improve Facebook search.”
Others, such as Ashkan Karbasfrooshan, have taken the post as a “Not So Subtle For Sale Sign.”
In any case, it seems that Facebook is a more powerful entity than many of us ever guessed.

I wanted to reply on the mishap of Bliss Jones (Moore) I feel so bad for the family and kids the world is turning into an ugly place the drugs are taking our lives i know i was just there a few months ago myself.I was hurt2 years ago looked after my 5 kids the government wouldn"t help me i know what its like to be a drug user you start because your depressed lonely desperate to want to be noticed by other people it's attention i know her family loved her alot her husband did everything for her hedid it and yes she was a selfish person and is by leaving thekids but i'm nobody to be judging i could just imagine how she was feeling i nbacked up from everyone when they were judging me i didn't loose my kids either i let them have what they wanted they chose there dad now coming back to mom she was a good mom just like me stricked in her own way to make them listen god bless those kids the affair with DAN was probably the icning......It would have been for me i tryed this three times and god brought me through this awfull hellish life for a reason I wish life was easy and happy but when i didn't have the kids ya it was HELL no other word for it so from here god must have some plans for me i wish i only knew what he had planned for me but at the same time i'll continue to let people be mean to me and say all the mean things people say and i'll continue to love people just as the creator did I thank the lord for myself that i'm still here to be with my kids the ex wants them to hate me with two it's worked but i still love them and for today i'm clean have been for seven months I am still healing from when i almost did myself in in the accident love ya all beacause we live and are addicts does not mean were not lovable people because we are the most compassionate people there is love always any time of need even to have someone to listen i"ve been there (250 493-1528 (131) call
