For those of you who watched the latest “Person of Interest” episode, you know what a tearjerker it was. For those of you who haven’t, you may want to stop reading now because spoilers are ahead.

In the very emotional episode that aired on Tuesday night, Taraji Henson, who plays Joss Carter, was killed while performing her job that she devoted her life to. Henson won over the hearts of fans during the two and a half seasons she spent on the CBS drama, and she is sure to be missed by everyone who watches the show.

Although it meant leaving the show, Henson says she was ready for a change and wanted to keep the show exciting. “Sometimes in TV you get too comfortable. You got to shake things up,” she said. “And I think that’s the beauty of this show. No one’s safe. Sometimes you got to shake it up, and I’m a ballsy girl so I was down for it.”

She also explained that when she took the role, she didn’t plan on lasting through the entire series. “I always knew that we would have a beginning, a middle and an end,” Henson told Entertainment Weekly. “You don’t tell the audience “Hey, she’s not gonna last!’ because that’s the whole surprise element, but that’s what’s so innovative about the show and that’s why I joined. We always knew we would do two, maybe three seasons.”

However, when it came time to film the last seen, Henson says it was not as easy as she thought. “It was sad. You portray a character for so long, you care about her and her life,” she said. “But art imitates life—it comes to an end unexpectedly. It was bittersweet, because I enjoyed portraying Carter. What a strong, powerful woman on television.”

Henson had some last words for all of Carter’s fans, “Carter will always be with you. Now she’s an angel, so she’s even more powerful.”

I am very disappointed in the loss of Taraji. The show will never be the same. I just hope this doesn’t in some way end this show. This is one of my favorite shows and I love the character Taraji played.

  • John Wrobel

I love Taraji she is a great actress!! I am sorry to see her character get killed off!!! I understand shaking up a show and story line, but I will miss her!!

    • topaz

I love this sbow. Is one of my favorites
I am not happy that carter was killed. I’m even debating if I should continue to watch the show. She will be miss a great deal. I loved her in this show.

  • Cassandra

I am so disappointed. I love this show with her on it; however because I am such a fan I will continue to watch and hope they find someone with as powerful a storyline as Taraji. I look forward to your next venture Taraji.
    LOL

  • daffney

Bring her back. OMG! bring her back

    • Ernest

I have already lost interest with her leaving. Maybe she can come back like JR

  • Beck

Can you guys please re-write this? Seriously, the structure of this article in inundated with attempts to start internet rumors of the death of Ms. Henson, not her character on the show. It’s misleading and I believe deliberately so.

    • Sara

I don’t watch the show and have never seen it…. I actually interpreted it as she was an actual Person Of Interest in a real-life criminal case LOL

Yes, I agree, misleading title, especially for those of us who weren’t particularly aware that she starred on the show in the first place.

    • Keyon

What??? Maybe you should reread the article and take note of the fact that she just appeared on Letterman and that Taraji regularly tweets. There for who in their right mind would actually think that Taraji herself is dead???!!!

      • Ashley

Actually Keyon, it would be very easy for someone to be mislead.

        This sentence reads:
“In the very emotional episode that aired on Tuesday night, Taraji Henson, who plays Joss Carter, was killed while performing her job that she devoted her life to”

This sentence pretty much says that Henson was killed while performing her job. Not Joss Carter. It should say Joss Cater, played be Henson, was killed….

So before you go jump down someone’s throat, you should probably look and see why they felt that way. The grammar in the article is incorrect and could lead to some confusion.

    • Jeanne Weiske

You’re right. It states that “Taraji Henson, who plays Joss Carter, was killed while performing her job” Seriously?

  • renee

I looked forward to the show each week and I loved the Carter character. There are very few black actresses in a television drama these days. Hopefully she was wearing a bullet proof vest so that her she can be brought back…(hint to writers)

    • http://www.webpronews.com/taraji-henson-person-of-interest-2013-11 bruce

She said last night that she knew that she would not be there for seven years I think this is why they brought Shah in to fill the void when she left.

  • http://www.moonsmusings.com Lisa

They really killed her off? Oh! No! I was so hoping for a twist of some kind that would keep her on the show. I love this show and her character. Wahhhh! This stinks. :(

  • http://webpronews Ann Mcgaw

I am SO disappointed. Just when I saw Reese and Carter were going to finally get together, the writers kill her off. I had been hoping for a love storyline, but not going to happen. Just going to leave a sad character instead. :(

    • Cora

Can’t have an interracial couple on television in 2013! Just Barack Obama’s parents and the Mayor of New York and his wife. People in this country need to grow up. Times are changing. Racism is dying and younger people are part of the reason. Good riddance as the old folks used to say.

    • Rosy

Are you kidding? That’s why they killed her off. You don’t kill off a major character I don’t care… unless they are expendable and a Black character on these shows is expendable. They had two choices kill her off or do that interracial thing. They feel more people would be offeneded by an interracial coupling of these two than killing her off. You need to prove them wrong stop watching.

  • Dee

BRING HER BACK! BRING HER BACK! I hated that ending scene…JOhn needs her and I love that they found love. BRING HER BACK!

  • Joe

I love this show and was emotionally crushed that Tajari Henson’s character Det. Carter was fatally wounded. Her relationship with Reese was great and her partnership with Det. Fusco was solid. Her character was a model for all women even though she had to do some things that went against beliefs. There must be a way for her to continue.

    • mandarinroses

Don’t you get it? She wants to do something else. She quit.

  • BrenG

NOOOOOO, I love her character, their chemistry together and the fact that she and John finally acknowledged that they have feelings for each other. I will miss her but somewhere I am hoping that once the last leader is caught she will reappear.

  • Rachel G.

This was a powerful twist to the story-line. Now that she’s dead, the team will surely continue her work of bringing down the remaining HR group. We all want to know about the ‘others’ that worked for Harold before Reese was recruited.

  • BrenI

Taraji played an excellent role as Carter. I enjoyed the episode this season where the three women that assist Finch and Reese were out for a night on the town. Her character made the show diverse in terms of ethnicity. I hope they bring Taraji’s character back and say that she was wearing a bullet proof vest. How will the show move on now especially with assistance from the police since Lionel’s their only source of help?

  • Lisha

I am PIST!!!! I couldn’t beleive it I Immediately jumped to google to see what the HEY. I loved Taraji’s character so dissapointed my mind of the show is always open, they could have made some kind of story line with her ex not being a really good guy or her and John hooking up and I loved the fact they had the ladies of the show catch a mark the women could have reunited to catch more bad guys, but to kill her off. I may have to send a FB/TW & ISG to boycot the show now this is how bad I feel about the out come. I’m worndering now how many people will stop watching because she’s gone how will the ratings be now, she was an assat to the inside intel of the PD, Fosco just didn’t have the connections she had within the department as well as the FBI I’m sad. I Love you Taraji and I wish you well God Bless.

  • Marsha Selby

    They just lost this fan!!!

  • Mark C. Potts

Call JJ Abrams, he’ll create an alternative universe for her.

  • Kathy

I kinda expected it…with John and Joss talking about close calls to death and then he professing his feelings, it was bound to happen…especially when the phone started to ring…

    • Rosy

Of course. Who didn’t know she was dead the moment they confused their feelings. She is Black right?

  • Editor

However, when it came time to film the last seen, Henson says it was not as easy as she thought.

Professional writers/editors should have caught that. You film a SCENE.

  • Kimmie

I didn’t want to see Carter go out like that. What about her son. What about the kiss between her and John. How can the writers do that? I am hurt. They couldn’t shake up the show by getting rid of the crazy lady in the cage? I don’t get her part at all, and she is real annoying always talking cryptic or something. They should have killed her not Carter. SMH.

  • Bewildered

I couldn’t believe it, “Why Carter’s character?” Who will, What will happen to her son? I hope she was wearing a bullet proof vest! Is there no justice in writing? With all of the corruption, why take a good guy/girl out? This sucks!!!!!!!!!

  • Debbie

BRING HER BACK Are you writers crazy

  • PJ

Didn’t see that coming, but I hope John’s mission is to close the case on HR by cutting off the head of that last snake. If it was her choice to leave, or if her contract with the show had expired, they should have found a better way to end this other than death. Now that she is gone I am sure that we will never see her son again even though she asked John to look after him. Now what is John’s other sidekick going to do when she finds out that Carter was gunned down. Will there be a manhunt for the COP killer in the next episode, or will her death be in vain? Keep me interested in the story line.

  • Nina Gallow

I can’t believe I missed the episode. I DVR everything and forgot to watch it. Well now it won’t be that interesting to me anymore. :( She could’ve been killed on a SERIES FINALE…not when the show has already lost some of its audience because of the switch to a new night.

  • http://webpronews.com Carolyn Scott

OMG….OMG…Glad to know i’m not alone. Carter should not have died. Just when her and Reese are to?????…..yea get rid of the “cage lady” i dont get her either. Please find a way to bring her back.

  • http://www.webpronews.com/taraji-henson-person-of-interest-2013-11 bruce

I think that she will be missed!

  • Joan

I’m sad to see Carter go, but I will still be watching the show. The scripts are great and now we all know that anything can happen. When viewers get too comfortable with the dynamics of a show, ratings slip. I am just surprised there wasn’t more reaction from fans on the Internet the day after the show. It was nice to see both Carter and Reese reveal a little about their emotional side. It is sad to see Carter die.

    • Micki

Actually, thousands of fans have reacted. The POI Facebook page EXPLODED, leading up to and after Tuesday’s episode! The general response, as it is here, is “No way!” “Bring her back!” “It (her death) has to be a fake out!” Etc, etc. I myself am hoping there could be a return. If not, the show frequently goes back in time for context on certain characters/story lines; maybe Carter’s son’s will be one of them?

  • http://www.webpronews.com/taraji-henson-person-of-interest-2013-11 bruce

I had not watched the show for a while and the first time that I watched it this season they kill off my favorite character! What a shame!!

  • margie foree

LOVE PERSON of INTEREST…keep it coming…a smarter NCIS. Will miss Carter…Taraji is great..she’ll have her own show soon I’m sure!!

  • Terry Allen

I was really disappointed to lose Joss Carter’s character. She was so awesome and a great role model for young women everywhere. And now we have to grieve with her son, another young person to be raised without a mother. She was just such a big part of the show from the very beginning and I do not know that she could be replaced.

  • LES

Did they not have to fake her death? If she lived HR would certainly her killed her and her son.

    • Justin

That’s the rub Les, she was killed by the ONE major HR person who was not in jail. Something tells me that Mr. Reese is going to be not so happy for the next few weeks. That takes the “does not play well with others” factor through the roof.

  • Squirt

Ok. This was a total surprise. Now two of my favorite shows have lost two major characters; Ziva on NCIS and now Det. Carter. Just what are the writers of these shows trying to do. And oh, Bishop on NCIS is certainly no Ziva!

  • Jennifer

I LOVE this show and cannot wait until Tuesday nights. I am sad to see her go….wonder if maybe they played it this way to fake her death? I hope so, I will miss seeing her. Thought for sure it was going to be her partner Fusco (sp??). Love the show and glad to see more of Bear too

  • Cora

    I’m not happy about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Edna

This is the best show on TV and I am sure Taraji Henson will show up on another series. She was ad is one of my favorite actors. Best of luck to her and her son. Will continue watching the show until the very end of the series. She can’t be replaced on this show.

  • Robert

They just ruined the chemistry and possibly the show. You had 4 main characters and now you have 3 left. Neither Shaw nor Root can replace Carter. She had compassion but yet she was tough and could handle herself. I hope this stupid twist doesn’t stop me from watching the show…

  • http://yahoo Ren

Boy, you guys had us going. I thought that John and Joss were going to be romantically involved in upcoming episodes and that Lionel was going to be wasted. I was floored when Joss got shot but that’s what makes great shows, the unexpected. GOOD LUCK TO YOU BABE, IT IS ALL YOURS.

    • http://yahoo.com Ren

      I meant Fusco.

  • Instyle

for once, a black female role that does not portray black females in a negative way and they kill her off. I hate that. Usually roles of prostitutes, drug users, bad mothers with 50 kids is what most black female actors get. At least now, black female actors are getting more positive roles. Try to keep them in the spot light for a while. ok
    This was a great show.

  • Marsha

I will miss her I think she is the cutest woman on TV . She is hot. I hope to see her more movies.

  • http://cre8ifsage.com Steven Sage

I knew when the last minute was upon us and everything was mellow that something had to give. On Wednesday it was all I thought about..how could you kill my girl off? Taraji you did a great job and I could never see anyone but you in that role. Kudos to the casting dept for finding you bc you will always have a place in my heart and an even bigger place in my soul. Great job hun <3…we're going to miss you desperately:(

The POI writers and producers took a gamble and have lost big time. Det. Carter and Reese ARE the show. Their rolls are what MADE Finch and the machine. They made Det. Fucso. Too bad you take one of the best shows on commercial TV and make unnecessary adjustments. You shake up the story line by improving on the story line development – not by removing one the of strongest characters on the show. Now what’s left to watch? Do we really care about Root enough to invest in her? I don’t. Speaking of season finales here is one: kill off Reese and Finich too. Let Root, Det. Fucso and Shaw be the new keepers of the machine. Let them push the legacy of Reese, Carter and Finch to new levels. Because wiithout Carter, Reese and Finch have not soul.

  • http://webpronews,com Karen

So upset over her being killed off ! She was one of the main characters
on the show. Can’t stand Shah ! That’s who I wouldn’t miss !Having never missed an episode not sure now if I want to continue watching. It will not be the same.

  • http://Yahoo June Winkler

I could not believe that Carter was killed!!! I enjoy the show and have been a fan since it came on the air. I will really miss Ms. Henson. She is truly a gifted actress.

  • Sharon

Person of Interest is now off my list of shows I’ll be watching going forward.

  • Serendipity

This was one of my favorite shows. Very well written. Just plain good.
I am so sorry to see Taraji leave. Have watched her career for many
years. If there is some way to bring her back, it would make a lot of
people satisfied, judging by the comments section, including me.

Thank you for POI, somehow this show just works — due mainly to the main characters, including Taraji — Please consider bringing her back!

  • TJ

Carter was The Bomb! We love the show and will miss her but maybe they can bring her back through her “angel” body for Finch and John to hear/see on occasion?!?

  • rob nelson

I’m truly disappointed because I really liked Taraji’s character. Is it really her idea or was she forced out. They should have killed off the fat detective or the crazy girl. I’m not sure if I’ll watch the show anymore.

  • Justin

I literally started getting a queasy stomach as the show started to wind down and I realized Fusco was going to be alright. That meant someone else was going to die, the ads all week said a hero would lose (or something like that). Saw Carter and Reese walking together with only a couple of minutes left on the show. OH NO THEY ARE GOING TO KILL OFF CARTER! NO NO NO!!!! Made me sick to my stomach. Taraji will be missed on the show, no matter how good the other characters are and how much I enjoy the show.
Of course, Mr. Reese is going to be kicking some MAJOR a$$ for the next couple of shows. Should be VERY interesting.

  • http://WebProNews Adrianne Gant

I am concern that the Producer removed all of the three African Americans from the Person of Interest Show. Taraji helped make this show a success and her remover has offended, saddened and alarmed the African American viewers. Why? I enjoyed the show and to dismiss this act without expressing that she was the best female actor on the show. Thank you Trarji, wish you the best.

  • Chele

You can fix this! She doesn’t have to be dead…put her in Witness Protection until the rest of HR is found and taken down and then bring her back…even Covert Affairs knows how to save it’s star female character.. hint, hint…besides she and John have some passion to rekindle! It wasn’t broke…your viewers have spoken. :(

  • http://att.net J

I hoped against odds that JJ Abrams and the POI writers would be courageous enough to do what other shows have not done(except Law & Order and NCIS: LA). Having a smart, tough, professional Black person depicted as a positive character like the Carter’s role(not a prostitue, gang banger, drug dealer or poor, homeless lout), was an asset. The chemistry was remarkable. Now one of the few great role Black female characters is written out of the show.
I suspected as much when Reese and she developed some emotional ties. Can it be that the network where the head is married to an
Asian woman cannot comprehend an interracial attachment?
Now the show is pristine . . . and a lot less interesting. A shame and a cowardly “out” for what was a dynamic, diverse, well-written program.
