Twitter Sees an Increase in Tweeting Frequency

Each month we’ve been looking at Twitter’s growth in terms of new user registration and number of Tweets. Last month we saw a decline in the number of new Twitterers in November continuing a trend that began in July.

In December, however, new Twitter user registrations leveled out. Number of tweets grew significantly, and the number of tweets from new users grew as well, possibly indicating that people aren’t just signing up for Twitter and not using it.

Twitter Starts the Year with Some New Faces

Just as many of us get back to work after the holidays, Twitter has some new people starting work with the company altogether. Twitter reportedly has ten new people (most starting today), and some of them have interesting backgrounds, which could have interesting implications for the company’s future.

Twitter Takes SMS Tweeting to Australia

Twitter has partnered with Telstra to launch Twitter SMS in Australia.

"As always, it is free to receive notifications and standard text messaging rates apply to sending," says Twitter’s Kevin Thau. "It’s the same pricing as sending and receiving text messages from friends."

Twitter About to Get More Useful for Businesses

If You don’t think Twitter is useful for business now, new features may change your mind. Twitter announced that it has begun limited beta testing of a new feature aimed at businesses, called "Contributors." The feature allows businesses to have more control over who is posting for their company Twitter account, and to make that information visible to users.

Number of New Twitterers Declines

We’ve been looking at Twitter’s growth on a monthly basis, in terms of new user registrations and number of tweets. In October, new Twitterers were down, but tweets were up.

November’s numbers paint a similar picture. Matthew Daines, the lead developer of Twellow, has shared a couple of new graphs for last month.

Yahoo’s Twitter Releases an API

Yahoo has released an API for Meme, the company’s microblogging service, which is still in beta. If you’re not familiar with Meme, it’s kind of like Yahoo’s version of Twitter, minus the enormous amount of hype.

Injured USC Tailback, Stafon Johnson, Joins Twitter

On Monday USC’s Stafon Johnson suffered a very serious injury, while lifting, when a weight bar fell on his throat, essentially crushing his throat and larynx. Stafon had to endure a seven-hour surgical procedure to repair the damage.

The good news is his doctors are expecting him to make a full recovery; the bad news is his senior season is likely over.

Stafon’s mother was quoted, on USC’s website, as saying:

Six Apart, the creators of TypePad, have launched the TypePad Platform, a set of APIs that allow developers, bloggers, publishers, and corporations use the TypePad "cloud".

Yahoo Looking for Some of that Twitter Action

Remember Yahoo Meme? It’s a microblogging site from Yahoo that appears to be the company’s attempt at a Twitter clone. Instead of birds however, its theme is dogs.

The site was has been available in Portuguese and Spanish, but now it is available in English. Well, "available" is a strong word. You can go to the site and read what it says in English, but it’s not available for actual use at this point.

Twitter Expands SMS Tweeting in Canada
