Search Marketing Isn’t Just SEO and PPC

You can look at the tourism industry and get a feel for the problems companies of all kinds are facing in terms of social media engagement every day. I just sat in on  a session at BlogWorld aimed at such companies, but the themes were much broader – how to filter though all the noise of the web to find discussions about your brand, ways to harness the social media tools that are available to us to actually get some use out of them, how to use different kinds of search engines to engage with people, etc.

Thousands of people are gathered at the Mandalay Bay to get advice and ideas to take home with them to their companies and help their brands excel online. 

Livestrong Aims to Beat #beatcancer Hashtag Record

LiveStrong CEO Doug Ulman spoke at the BlogWorld & New Media Expo today, where he announced an initiative to beat a record set last year for tweets with the #beatcancer hashtag. Last year’s record was 209,000 and change. This time PayPal and SWAGG will donate 5 cents for every hashtag. It starts at 9:00 AM on 10/15.

An interesting development has occurred in the story of the controversial FTC guidelines for sponsored blogging/social media. The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has called upon the FTC to rescind the blogger rules, and has questioned the constitutionality of them. As you may know, there have been a lot people calling them an infringement on free speech.

Comedy and Alcohol at BlogWorld

The closing keynote of the BlogWorld Expo this past weekend was set up like The Late Show. Guy Kawasaki came out and told some jokes in David Letterman fashion (complete with Late Show-like desk and chairs), then he introduced the audience to actor/comedian Kevin Pollak.

I just arrived at Blogworld Expo and am getting ready for a weekend of great bonding with more than a thousand fellow bloggers as well as two great sessions that I am looking forward to. My first is on a panel moderated by my friend Kelly Feller from Intel all about social media case studies from the real world.
