  • A potentially-catastrophic situation was fortunately averted when a fire was contained.

CBS reported that a shipping and receiving building within the Skywalker Ranch 4,000 acre compound recently caught fire. The ranch is owned by George Lucas, the famous director who is responsible for bringing the world Star Wars. Skywalker Ranch currently serves as the headquarters for Lucasfilm and Skywalker Sound though there are no indications that the fire will hinder operations.

The fire, which occurred shortly after 4 in the morning, was first contained by a sprinkler system before receiving attention from individuals trained to handle such situations.

Mike Giannini, the Marin County Fire Battalion Chief, explained that the ranch staff included trained firefighters who had already responded to the fire and attended to the initial dangers by the time county fire officials had arrived on the scene. He continued by saying, “They also support in a mutual aid capacity to areas that are close to Skywalker Ranch.”

The fire was extinguished at 5:30 in the morning. Even though the fire is presently under investigation, there is at least an estimated $25,000 in damage. The building contained office supplies and furniture, equaling some of the estimated damages; however, the roof was also inflamed. Fortunately, there are no injuries resulting from the fire.

The vast, beautiful landscape of Skywalker Ranch depicted in the video below shows how easily a full-scale disaster could have transpired where thankfully due to the talents of fast-acting firefighters the resulting devastation was less than what may have happened otherwise.
