    Social Media is difficult to grasp for companies without much buzz, even if they get significant traffic and revenue.

    How would you say that such companies approach their social media strategies?

    I’m glad that you were in that particular tourism track session because Ann Peavey (@SeattleMaven on Twitter) is simply stellar at listening to people talking about her city, but where she really shines is the friendly way that she reaches out in response to mentions and gives assistance or just welcomes people to Seattle and lets them know that the CVB is available for them.

    There are very few that do it better; she holds a “how to rock Twitter” clinic every day.

  4. I agree. Online marketing nowadays should not only rely with SEO and PPC. Social media marketing, viral marketing, etc. should also be implemented as well to really get great results.

  5. It seems like Facebook Community Pages organize everything that’s being said about your brand in one place, but I’m not sure how popular Community Pages are yet. I’m curious to hear if you think Facebook and other social media sites are heading towards these types of “community pages,” and if that will give consumers even more power.

  7. Although I have a Twitter account which I used to promote my blog posts, I never really learned Twitter well enough to do any type of monitoring with it. Assuming I do a search on Twitter for my company name or an industry related keyword, could you tell me how (or direct me to a link that tells me how) to contact that person on Twitter without having to follow (a.k.a “join”) that person’s Twitter page? Thanks.

  10. Today’s world of Branding monitoring is a whole new ball game, and the internet and social media play a huge role. We use a team of people to monitor every aspect of the discussions that pertain to our Brand to help better understand consumers needs, the way they perceive us as well as how best to develop our marketing.   13. Social Media Marketing is not right for everyone. Several clients we manage have no need for social media. Just because Twitter and Facebook exist doesn’t mean a roofing company or a shoe insert company need to be using them. Their time could be spent best by PPC or SEO, or providing a quality service to their customers. If they get their basic business down right, they shouldn’t have to worry about “reputation management.” Social media is just word of mouth – which doesn’t require prodding or manipulation. Do your business properly and word of mouth will follow.

    There’s a great sushi cafe down the street that is always packed. They built their business on being a great sushi joint. As they say, “Do what you love, and the money will follow.”

    • If it is a small roofing company or a shoe insert company, even if they offer a great product or service at a great price, they are going to have at least one unhappy customer, and chances are that one unhappy customer is going to start talking about it somewhere. They may not have as much buzz about their company online as Apple or Coke, but if the only buzz out there is that one unhappy customer talking about how terrible their company is, that can have a negative effect on their reputation, and they could begin to lose business. It would be a good idea for them to take an occasional look at what people are saying about them online.
