Osama bin Laden, one of the most notorious terrorists of all time, has been killed.

Just a few short hours ago, President Obama announced the death of the September 11th mastermind, which was live-streamed by the White House and Facebook. (Watch it above if you missed it)

The news of bin Laden’s death hit Twitter first, but nothing was official. At 7:25pm PST CNN’s Steve Brusk tweeted about the President’s “security related announcement” and people began buzzing as the rumor mill began to accelerate in to hyper-drive.

One of the first credible tweets came from Keith Urbahn, the Chief of Staff for former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who tweeted the following…

Shortly after this, the White House’s Communication Director tweeted…

And, a little later the President took to the podium to announce what everyone had been waiting for.

With the confirmation of bin Laden’s death, numerous Facebook pages are starting to pop-up, one in particular has gone viral, and sports almost 250,000. Who knows, by tomorrow morning, this page could be well over one million likes in less than twenty-four hours.

As to be expected, large amounts of people amassed outside the White House and Ground Zero to celebrate the death of bin Laden. Below is a video from New York City where chants of “USA USA” can be heard.

  1. Although it’s great news he’s dead, It doesn’t stop terrorism at all. Things may even get worse. Once again, Americans will be afraid of flying and this will in turn hurt the airline industry. For a country seeking economic recovery, this is something we don’t need.

  2. I can’t be aware that people today in European union, the hurting of bin Laden thought by many as critical. There is certainly critique that bin Laden got no trial and that the USA invaded a foreign location. I do believe the U.S. had every right to perform this action. Who, if not the U.S.? I am from Germany I am so happy as the Americans about this campaign. Great job!

    its big lye by president US. Mr. President’s needs to win the next year election so that the people’s ask about what u r working until now for that case he announce the Osama kill. this is USA dirty political game to stop the Mission of Terrorism and to Mobilize and Initiate the people for election to get vote. But Osama bin laden dead before 4 years by kidney infection so the USA heard now about Osama for that case to success our mission just we announced.

  4. God bless America! It’s about time we got that evil monster. All that hard work, blood, sweat, and tears shedded by all the brave men and women of the American armed forces finally paid off. Their work has not been in vain. Much respect to everyone serving in the military, I salute you.

    I read on yahoo that his death has some drawbacks too. I think only well tell what is that.
