The film is an adaptation of the novel by the same name written by Steve Erickson and follows a film-obsessed man named Ike (Franco), who arrives in Hollywood in 1969 hoping to break in to the business. He arrives at just the right moment — when the industry is taking a turn for the better.
Fox will play a Hollywood starlet with a sordid past, who becomes the romantic interest and obsession of Franco’s character.
In the era of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll, Ike gets his dream job as a film editor. Through his journey in 1960s Hollywood, he encounters the gambit of stereotypical characters, ranging from former starlets, burglars and political guerrillas to musicians and veteran filmmakers.
Vince Jolivette of Rabbit Bandini is producing, along with Caroline Aragon, Michael Mendelsohn and Franco.
Fox's most recent role is in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which debuted strong and earned $65.5 million domestically in its opening weekend. The movie was the fourth-highest August opening ever and has grossed $375 million worldwide.
