It seems that every new generation of consoles brings a few new racing IPs with it. Ubisoft was one of the first out of the gate with The Crew. It's being billed as an open world racing game that focuses on social interaction and unmatched customization.
In a new trailer from Gamescom, Ubisoft showed off some of the gameplay features from The Crew. The developers show off the deep customization that they say is "nearly unlimited." After they choose their car, players will then be able to travel to any area in the U.S. to join other players in a myriad of events.
The developers also detail how progression works in the game. Unlike other racing games that just give you points or money for winning races, The Crew gives players money, experience points and a random car part for winning events. Team events will net every participating player experience and cash, but the winner will obviously receive the most.
it's hard to get excited about new racing IP when we already have excellent franchises like Need for Speed and Gran Turismo. Ubisof will have to prove that The Crew is well worth our time and money, and what we've seen thus far is very promising. Here's hoping we actually get to have some time with it before it hits next generation consoles and PC in 2014.
