Jim Carrey had been seeing Cathriona White on and off for a few years before she suddenly passed away last week of a suspected suicide, but according to the medical examiner, she was married to another man.

White's body is being held by the medical examiner's office and will be released into the custody of her husband--whose identity has not been revealed--for a burial in Ireland.

"She had a husband, we have a husband as next of kin. We’re not releasing any more information on next of kin, but we do have her as married," a spokesperson from the office said.

While sources told the Hollywood Reporter that Carrey never would have dated a married woman, others say he knew about her husband but that they were separated, with White planning to file for divorce later this year.

"There is no way that Jim would have taken her out to public places if he thought she was married. As far as Jim was concerned, Cat was separated from her husband and was going to start divorce proceedings in December. When people are separated they date or do whatever they need to do."

According to the Assistant Chief Coroner, Ed Winter, White was found with several prescription bottles which were not her own, and rumors have flown around the web that at least one of them belonged to Jim Carrey. If they were his, they were taken without his knowledge, says a source.

"There were four prescriptions: Ambien, Percocet, Propranolol and Zofran," Winter said. "There were several notes found. There was a note addressed to Mr. Carrey."

While the contents of the notes have not been released--or the exact cause of death--Jim Carrey has reportedly been meeting with White's family and is helping them through this dark time.
