  • Hope Solo is still in the game after last year’s domestic dispute debacle.

To some, like Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Hope Solo’s continuation as a starter for the U.S. women’s national team at the World Cup in Canada is unacceptable.

Blumenthal, along with many others, became aware of the details surrounding Hope Solo’s arrest after an ESPN report.

In fact, on Thursday Blumenthal wrote a letter to the head of the US Soccer Federation, Sunil Gulati, expressing his concern over Hope Solo’s lack of punishment.

Blumenthal wrote that domestic violence is “unacceptable, particularly for an athlete representing the United States of America on the global stage.”

The problem with Hope Solo’s case rests in the fact that the details of what happened last June when Hope Solo was arrested remain foggy.

Hope Solo was charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault after an altercation involving her half-sister and her nephew.

Gulati was quick to respond to Senator Blumenthal on Friday night, defending the non-action by the federation in regard to Hope Solo.

He wrote, “The federation has been a long-standing leader in the pursuit of gender equity in sport — a role of which we are quite proud. Accordingly, rest assured that the federation considered domestic and family violence a very serious matter.”

He added, “The federation understands its role and obligation as the national governing body for the sport of soccer and will continue to investigate and address such issues as they arise.”

It came to light this week that this isn’t the first time that Hope Solo has been in legal trouble for losing her temper.

According to TMZ, back in 1998 Hope Solo was a high school bully.

In court documents, the compaintant stated, “She punched me in the cheek. Then she said, ‘I f–kin’ hate you, you fat a– whore!’ and punched me two more times. Once in the eye and once in the mouth.”
